THE GYMNASIUM-AUDITORIUM

The room in Gent's Hall used for athletics proved inadequate, and the Class of 1909 made a gift of $1,000 toward a gymnasium, which generated pledges of $8,000 in support of the project. The building, which cost over $22,000, was finished in June 1911 and served as both gymnasium and auditorium.

Athletics, Shakespeare, Choral Union and commencement - all took place here until the Percy l. Dunn Athletic Center was built.  Then a wing was added to the old gymnasium to accommodate the Music Department, which had outgrown the Studio, and the gymnasium itself was remodeled into the Allen-Bradley Auditorium. The building was dedicated as the Daland Fine Arts Center to the memory of President William C. Daland, Dean John N. Daland and the Daland family.
