Jon Burren  '71  Those were the days

Where do I begin? There are so many memories of Milton College if I had the time I more than likely could write a book. I was a DJ for WVMC our college radio station, John Brown and I always stared out the broadcast with "Welcome to WVMC this is Jon Burren and John Brown, we're the two J's rolling hit after hit after hit. Naturally, we were talking about the tunes of the times and not Mary Jane. I also helped out a business professor by the name of Pete Schaeffer. One night after finals Pete and I were grading the papers and had a few too many beers. Pete got in a bad automobile accident that night so I guess drinking and driving do not mix. The list of friends that I met are endless. Too bad 30 years later I don't remember all their names, but I certainly would welcome an e-mail (drinsulate@aol.com) from any of you that remember me. Candy, Gwen, Bonnie, Annie, Mary, Leslie, Kenney, Bobbie, Jim, Paul, Tim, Barry, Mike, Keith, etc, etc. etc. There used to be a liquor store close to campus called Frank's liquor....used to buy quality Kickapoo Beer at $3.98 a case and all those top shelf wines, Annie Green Springs, Boone Farm, MD 20/20. I had an orange van which was decked out on the inside with the Keep on Truckin guy painted on the back door. Not too sure if the saying "If this van is a rocking, don't come a knockin" was coined at Milton, but we all have memories of the Flower Power girls of Milton. My room-mate Paul Carlson and I used to make a run up to Whitewater for happy hour every Friday. Paul had a GTO and we used to get smoked up and make that 1/2 hour trip in a little over 6 hours...if you know what I mean. Twelve ounce skooners were only 10 cents and the gals were a nickel. We used to find a co-ed put a dime on the table and tell her we'd buy her a beer and have her get me one too. With as little as $2.00 the night could be quite fun. In my senior year I got together with Mary and Mike to sing folk songs and play the quitar. Unfortunately, we never made it big. My room-mates were Ken Daniels and Paul Carlson. We had an apartment over a sheet-metal shop, with a balcony which hosted many parties. Ken dated Leslie and are still married living in Florida. I got to see Ken and Leslie a few years back for the first time in over 20 years. They have gotten older, but still are the fun loving couple I remember back at Milton.
