Allen Feuling '79 Coach Rudy Gaddini, Coach 'Huey' (Kevin DeKeuster), Coach Jim Johnson (Missou.. Missou.. Missouri!), Professor FitzRandolph, Dr. John Kenny -- those are the first names and faces that come to mind as I think back to my four years at Milton College from 1975 to 1979. As a player on the Milton Wildcat football team, my fond memories float from athletic to academic to college-at-large. One memory that has remained vivid all these years is highly personal but relevant to my Milton experience. Not having been selected to participate in the road trip to the Wildcat's first away football game of the 1975 season (I don't remember who against or where), I decided to spend the day exploring Milton. I ended up walking along the railroad tracks that pass through town. I no longer remember the direction I headed or the time traveled, but I do know that I was gone most of the day. I walked and walked thinking about the game I wouldn't play. I took in the sights -- the Milton water tower, the businesses, the wildlife, the homes and even took pictures, I think, along the way. The way back was painful as I had walked further than I had known. I walked and I walked and didn't get back to my room at Inglis Hall until late that day. Although inspired by disappointment, the marathon hike became more memorable for me than any football game could ever be. My Milton memories are many and strong. They have long comforted me, adding color and joy to my life. I once questioned the value of a small school experience against that of something bigger. I have since graduated from larger, more renowned institutions such as Indiana's IU. As wonderful as they may be, the quality of my time spent with them does not compare to the experience of my true alma mater, Milton College, where I acquired memories that I'll treasure for a lifetime.
